The push drill is the first drill to practice putting. When you push the ball to the hole you are extending the clubface down the target line and forcing a full follow through. Always hold the finish; when you hold the finish you can see if you pushed the putt right, pulled the putt left or hit it right down the line.
You are executing the Push Drill correctly when:
- You start with the putter touching the ball
- Accelerate quickly and hold the finish
- Push from no more than 3 feet
- You know instantly if the ball is going down the target line
Try alternating from the push drill to a normal swing from 3 feet. When you can hold the finish and know instantly if the ball is going down the target line with both swings you have mastered the push drill.
Fundamentals: Stable hands and steady wrists (one piece swing), Feel - hold the finish
